Growing up in South Orange County, Lost has always had a big presence, and an attitude that is all its own. Working with them this last year it has been good to see some things haven't changed.
Salt Life was created by four avid watermen from Jacksonville Beach, Florida. "Whether it's surfing, fishing, diving or simply enjoying a day at the beach, those who live and breathe the Salt Life have one thing in common... the ocean and all it has to offer!"
For a long time they have been big on the east coast and are making a push for more of a west coast vibe. I've been working with them this last year and here are some of the graphics I've come up for them.
Various graphic type treatments for brands I have worked on. These range from crude to refined.
All of the prints on this page I made specifically for boradshorts and over the course of the season the print became a graphic asset for other products in the sportswear catagory. I always enjoyed seeing a print I designed lived on in another category.
Rip Curl is one of the big three of the surfing industry. For years they have been creating a solid line of boardshorts every year and I was fortunate to contribute a little slice.
Here are some of my favorites that I designed.
For a long time Billabong has been known to make the best boardshorts period. The tradition was there in the beginning and was kept alive by dedicated designers and artist over the years. I'm glad I was able to contribute to the cause for 8+ years. It was my 1st job in the surf industry and over my time I was fortunate to have the opportunity to design for one of the all time great surfing companies.
Here are some of my choice cuts.
For a couple of seasons I was able to create some graphics for Innes. Being a small brand I was given a lot of freedom to come up with concepts based on some loose guidelines. It was very liberating and made to process very fun.
When I first started at Billabong I was doing prints and helping out with boardshorts as well as hang tags & trims. Which in the apparel design dept. which no one seems to what to do. I think it's because everyone considers it to be a throw away graphic. I still took the opportunity to have as much fun with it as possible.
Back when there was a Tower Records and other places to go and buy music there were zines filled with music review, stories, and up coming shows. Skratch Magazine was one of those zines. I did this cover illustration for their unofficial sxsw issue.
